OAMC -- The Recipes

I am, over a few posts, going to attempt to break down Once A Month Cooking.  I gave you a big picture of it all in my first post. For some, that first post may have been a bit more than you wanted to swallow.  Heh, heh, heh.  Pun intended.  I crack myself up.

I think a good place to start is with the recipes.   ("Let's start from the very beginning.  A very good place to start.  When you read you begin with A-B-C, and when you cook you begin with the rec-i-pes.")  Again, cracking myself up... I don't recall that Fraulein Maria sang it quite that way.  That's the song according to Fraulein GHM!

I told you that I surfed the web for "freezer meal recipes" and also bought two booklets: The Frozen Gourmet and Frugal Mom's Guide to Once A Month Cooking.  Both of the books are very reasonably priced, but let's begin with free.  Free is good.  Free is very, very good.  In fact, I'd like to give you a little tidbit.  FREE!  This is one of my family's favorite freezer meals, Simple Salisbury Steaks.  And easy?  It's easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy!  Just leave me a comment with your email address and I'll shoot the recipe to you.  And, keep watching, friends, there are many more recipes where that one came from!

So, go Google "freezer meal recipes."  I'll wait.  Well, it could take you a while to look at the websites, read through the recipes, and choose a few your family will like.  So, I'm not waiting on that.  Time is money, man.  Time is money.  Or something like that.

When you find a site that has recipes you like, save them.  I'd HIGHLY recommend creating a folder on your desktop that you can just add the recipes to.  I'm a geek and I like all my recipes to look similar on paper so I usually copy the entire recipe from the website and then paste it into a Word document, saving that document in my Recipes folder.   HEY!  Stop that!  I see you rolling your eyes at me.  Trust me, organization saves time.  And that is one of the BIG perks of OAMC!

Once you have filled your little Recipe folder with several recipes -- I'd start with about 10 for your first session, then it's time to make your shopping list with all the ingredients you'll need.

So, post number three will be all about creating your shopping list...

Now you must go and clean out your freezer of anything that has been lurking in the recesses.  You'll need all that space for the yummy, easy, wonderlicious meals you're going to be putting in there shortly!

Love wins,
GHM

PS -- If you have any questions about OAMC, post them in the comments section.  I will read through them and answer them in a future post.  Maybe there will be enough to post a whole OAMC FAQ page.  That's a whopping acronym, huh?  And if there's not many questions, I'll just assume that I'm really great at 'splainin things...

PPS or is it PSS  or is it SPS for Second Post Script --  WHATEVER it is, Don't forget to leave me a comment with your email address if you'd like a copy of the FREE OAMC recipe!
